Policy Support

The basic character of UNIDO’s strategic approach to development is to limit government interventions only to aimed at steering economic activity, particularly towards areas that offer better prospects for economic development. UNIDO’s Strategic approach to Industrial Policy (SIP) helps governments to identify and initiate interventions that will guide a country’s economy towards sustainable growth by encouraging structural change. SIP incorporates the elements of a strategic approach  tailored to the specific needs of a country, pays special attention to economic, social and environmental sustainability and puts the stakeholders at centre stage in the industrial development process.
